Important Update: Changes to Prescription Ordering

Important Update: Changes to Prescription Ordering

Dear Patients,

We are implementing new guidelines regarding prescription ordering to enhance safety and streamline the process. Starting from January 13, 2025, chemists will no longer be able to order prescriptions on behalf of patients. Instead, we encourage you to use the following methods to request your prescriptions:

  • NHS App: Conveniently request your prescriptions through the NHS App. We will hold drop-in training sessions to assist you with setting up and using the app.
  • Online Access: Utilise our online patient access system to order prescriptions.
  • Email: Send your prescription requests via email to our designated address.
  • Post: Post your prescription requests to the surgery.
  • In-Person: Visit the surgery and fill out a prescription request form.

We understand that this change may be challenging for some, especially those who have relied on pharmacies for their prescription needs. To support our vulnerable patients, we will place alerts on their records, allowing us to accept pharmacy requests for them. If you fall into this category, rest assured that your needs will be accommodated.

We recognise that many patients prefer the convenience of using their pharmacy for prescriptions. During the six-month transition period, we will evaluate this feedback and consider potential adjustments to ensure a smooth transition.

Training Sessions for the NHS App

To help you get started with the NHS App, we will be holding drop-in training sessions at the surgery. These sessions are designed to assist you with downloading, setting up, and using the app to manage your prescriptions. Please check our website or contact the surgery for the schedule of these sessions.

Transition Timeline

The transition period will span the next six months, giving everyone ample time to adapt to the new process. Our goal is to ensure that by January 13, 2025, all patients are comfortable with the new prescription ordering methods. Throughout this period, our team will be available to answer any questions and provide assistance as needed.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement these changes to improve the safety and efficiency of our services. Thank you for your continued support.

Best regards,

Whitley Road Medical Centre
