Understanding the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Our Practice Inspection Report

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care services in England. Their primary role is to ensure that health and social care services provide safe, effective, compassionate, and high-quality care to everyone who uses them. They regulate a variety of organisations, including GP practices, hospitals, care homes, and more.

The CQC achieves this through:

  • Monitoring, Inspecting, and Rating: Regular inspections are carried out to assess whether services meet fundamental standards of quality and safety. Practices are then rated as Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, or Inadequate.
  • Publishing Reports: Detailed inspection reports are made available to the public, highlighting the strengths of a service and any areas requiring improvement.
  • Taking Action Where Necessary: If a service falls short of the required standards, the CQC can recommend or enforce changes to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients.

Our practice at Whitley Road Medical Centre  underwent a CQC inspection in 2015, with a recent check-in monitoring call in 2024. We are proud to reflect our good rating.
